Murray Main

Murray is a highly accomplished and well respected retired senior police officer with a wealth of experience gained over a time-honoured career within Grampian Police and then the national Police Service of Scotland.  He concluded his 32-years’ service in June 2022, retiring as a Superintendent with strategic responsibility for the Partnerships, Preventions, and Interventions portfolio within Northeast Division.  This included leading on Diversity, Equality, and Inclusivity. 

He has a wealth of operational experience in frontline policing, roads policing and criminal investigation.  He also previously led on Corporate Communications, Business Change in Grampian Police, and other non-operational functions in Police Scotland.  Murray gained unique management experience leading major organisational projects both locally and nationally and was a Commander for significant events and sporting occasions.  He was a Firearms Commander, overseeing and responding to critical incidents, and leading on highly sensitive security operations, including the protection of members of the Royal Family and others protected persons while in Scotland.  He spearheaded and chaired the Local Resilience Partnership (LRP) approach to various critical and major incidents, including significant floodings, COVID-19, Brexit, and reoccurring gas outages. He led the multiagency response to a major train derailment in 2020, dealing with multiple fatalities and injuries, and drove the LRP and response to severe weather in 2021, which caused unpresented catastrophic damage and destruction across the Northeast and beyond. He has featured prominently in the local and national media. 

Murray is recognised as an individual with the highest integrity and a proven track record of undertaking, managing, and overseeing a diverse range of complex investigations, reviews, complaints, and inquiries.  He has been recognised within policing, and in the Scottish Parliament for his service to local communities.  He has considerable experience in investigations; communications; specialist operations; audit and scrutiny; risk management; stakeholder management; service delivery excellence; and strategic partnerships; and strategic planning and implementation.

He sits on the Board of Directors for a local charity supporting adults and young people with learning disabilities, learning difficulties or other vulnerabilities.
